Abstract
The paper presents the results of insight into linguistic and semantic features of coloronyms in English prose. Symbolic nature of certain text units is based on the ability of verbal devices to represent a thematic layer of literary text semantics. The former represent the national features of the linguistic worldview that are implemented through individual elements of the author's style.
The authors claim that the semantics of coloronyms undergo certain changes in the process of creating the fictional world. As a result names rendering the meaning of colours become symbolically meaningful. In its content and form a symbol signifies limited meanings and actualizes definite sense within a certain semiotic context. Symbolism of coloronyms is revealed through multi-reference links, that functionally reflect general human experience of physical, natural and social phenomena.
