Abstract
The scientific article is devoted to the analysis of modern data on the achievements and new opportunities for the study of hair in the production of forensic examination of physical evidence of biological origin. The author paid attention to some issues of modern methods of hair research, which are now used in the practice of forensic expert and lawyer in the medical and biological laboratory of the Bureau of Forensic Medicine and in private structures. These techniques relate to the use of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to detect drugs and other substances, as well as trace elements in the presented hair samples. This method is the most highly sensitive and selective, compared to other research methods. According to other characteristics of the object under study (shape, length, thickness, color, etc. of hair), it is possible to obtain important search information about the person being searched. Genotyping of hair, which is implemented in everyday expert practice, can give a clear answer when identifying a person, and the question of «compliance» or «non-compliance» of hair in these cases are eliminated. Such knowledge about traditional researches and the newest possibilities of modern diagnostics of various kinds of damage of hair at the present stage is very actual in practical activity of the forensic expert and lawyers.
