Seed market in Ukraine: problems and prospects

The article provides an analytical study of the seed market in Ukraine in order to determine the main factors limiting its development and measures that allow Ukrainian producers to become competitive both on the domestic and world markets. To determine the prospects, an analysis of the world seed market was carried out in the context of the dynamics of seed production volumes, regional segmentation, market structure and their main players. To determine the constraints on the development of the Ukrainian seed market, a structural analysis of the market was carried out, as a result of which the authors came to the conclusion that more than half of the seeds used by Ukrainian farmers are imported. As a result of a study of the reasons prompting Ukrainian agricultural producers to use imported materials, the authors came to the conclusion that the pressing issue is to ensure an effective seed quality management system, bring this process in corresponding with international standards, and develop complex solutions for farmers.
