FORMATION OF THE SYSTEM OF ACADEMIC EDUCATION IN GALICIA IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NATIONAL POLICY OF AUSTRO-HUNGARY (1867–1914): BEFORE THE QUESTION

The article is devoted to the analysis of the Austrian government′s policy in the field of the higher education in Galicia and Bukovina in 1867–1914 and to the identification of issues that need in-depth research, taking into account: – principles of national policy in the Austro-Hungarian Empire after the bourgeois revolution of 1848–1849; – need for a comprehensive analysis and scientific generalization of the historical experience of the Austro-Hungarian governments in reforming higher education in the study region; – needs to rethink our past, highlighting it on the basis of new methodological approaches; – initiating the development of insufficiently studied topics, identifying, systematizing sources, substantiating conceptual approaches to interpret the basic patterns and results of educational policy of the Habsburgs in general in the empire and in Galicia and Bukovina in particular.
