Abstract
This research paper focuses on Shape Memory Alloys (SMA), their unique properties, training, power requirements along with their present applications. It also discusses in detail a new potential application of SMAas asmart robotic morphing wingfor active aerodynamics in UAVs and racecars. The paper presents the methodology for design and the conceptual design for the robotic wing. The various UAVs and Drag Reduction systems used currently, their merits and demerits are discussed, and a comparison is made between the existing system and the proposed system. Further, the airfoil selection, SMA training method, and process flow are also discussed.
