Abstract
The current study was conducted at the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology of the Health Directorate in Thi- Qar province, during the period from October 2013 to May 2014. The study aimed to investigate polymorphis m of CTLA4 gene in patients with diabetes type I. The study included a total of 100 patients with type I diabetes (51 males) and (49 females) and there aged between 1-40 years, and 30 individual healthy control. DNA was isolated and PCR was performed using primers specific for the CTLA-4 gene, the results showed the presence of mutations in a sample of 47 out of 100 patients with diabetes type I at site 49 (A / G) after using restriction enzyme BstEII. The results of the statistical analysis showed correlation between the occurrence of the disease and the emergence of mutation (A / G) in the first exon for CTLA-4 gene when compared with the healthy control in population of Thi-qar province.
