Abstract
Prevalence of allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis and asthma is increasing to epidemic proportions in the world. [1-3] In Latin America, asthma prevalence is higher in tropical regions. [2-4] Particularly, in Cuba, asthma affects from 8.5% to 10% of adults and up to 17.8% of children, [5-8] and it is associated with high morbidity and profound social and economic impact, including reduced quality of life of patients, lower productivity and increase of indirect and direct costs.
