Abstract
Monitoring as well as mapping of land use land cover (LULC) dynamics changes in the peninsular India is very important for management, planning and ecological improvement. Based on earth observational data and geographic information system (GIS) method, the study is an attempt to mapping of dynamics in LULC patterns of Kancheepuram watershed of Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu for the periods 2005–2010, 2010–2015 and 2015–200. Images from Landsat-7 and Landsat-8 data sets were used to extract LULC maps. Maximum Likelihood Classifier, under Supervised classification scheme was used to develop LULC maps of the study area. Results shows, natural vegetation area are shrinking while agricultural land in increasing mode in last twenty years. While built-up area is almost remaining constant which is indication that study area is purely agricultural dominate area
