Abstract
Solar cells are the best energy source to generate electricity without polluting the environment. But the high installation cost and low power conversion efficiency are the major issues for large-scale implementation. Many investigations have been made to optimize the cost of photovoltaic devices. Among the available materials, graphene based materials are having remarkable optical, electronic and mechanical properties which can be a better replacement for the commercial materials used in conventional solar cells. Further, nanostructures could effectively trap the light which also could improve the power conversion efficiency of solar cells with lesser material requirement. This paper analyzes the traditional solar cells, role of nanostructures and graphene based nano materials in solar energy harvesting and some of the efficiency related properties of graphene based nano materials.
