Abstract

Pakshaghata (hemiplegia) is a vataja nanatmaja vyadhi (disesase of vata) which is kashtasadhya (difficult to cure), by considering its sign and symptoms it can be correlate with the cerebrovascular disease, hemiplegia. This is the third most common cause of death. The severe physical disability is the resultant of this disease. As the motor functions are disturbed it affects the patient and their family psychologically and financially. In bhaishajya ratnavali elaborated that mahamasha tail is effective in pakshaghata (Hemilegia). Shashtik shali pinda sweda is having properties like brimhana (nourishing) and vatashamaka (pacifies vata) which will be effective in pakshaghata (hemiplegia). Mustadi rajyapana basti is having balavardhana (improves strength), rasayan (rejuvanation) properties and it is beneficial for kshata ksheena(injured). Hence the present study was undertaken to assess the efficacy of combine therapy of Mahamasha taila abhyanga, shashtik shali pinda sweda, and mustadi rajyapan basti in the management of pakshaghata w. s. r. to hemiplegia. The 20 patients fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected. The assessment was done before and after treatment .The total duration of study was 15 days. Assessment were done by using subjective parameter as speech, pain, sensory changes, and objective parameter as facial paralysis, movements in shoulder joints, movement in elbow joint, Ability to hold and lift things with hand, Ability to sit, Ability to stand, Ability to walk. This combine therapy had shown statistically significant improvement after treatment. A combine therapy had shown effective results after treatment in all the parameters except in ability to hold and lift things. To improve the power of wrist and fingers a longer duration of treatment is needed. Thus indicates that a combine therapy of mahamasha taila abhyanga, shashtik shali pinda sweda and mustadi rajyapan basti is effective in pakshaghata w.s.r. to hemiplegia.
