Abstract
The article analyses the main concepts, which are normally used while speaking about the organization of such a form of learning under which the participants of the training process are not physically present at the same place. There were retraced the periods of development different forms of organization of learning process in distance format. Herewith there was fulfilled the comparative analysis of modern models of distance learning aimed at highlighting of their main advantages and disadvantages as well as it was made an attempt to reveal the most effective model of distance learning that may be effectively used for training of adult learners at formal and non-formal levels of education.
