Abstract
Eye color in human range from the darkest shades of brown to the lightest tints of blue. It is a polygenic phenotypic character, controlled by multiple genes and is determined by the pigmentation of iris of the eye and the frequency- dependence of the scattering of light by the turbid medium in the stroma of the iris. Eye color is an instance of structural color and the appearance of lighter-colored eyes also results from the Rayleigh scattering of light in the stroma. An instance of heterochromia iridis of one girl is reported in this paper, where one eye is light blue with brown spots/ stripes and the other eye is brown. The family history of the girl reveals that none of the members either from the paternal or maternal side are affected and the probable reasons behind such a condition has been explained.
