“Halkın Dostları” dergisi 1970 ile 1971 yılları arasında toplumcu gerçekçi fikirlerden etkilenen yazar ve şairler tarafından yayımlanır. Dergi kadrosunda İsmet Özel, Ataol Behramoğlu, Asım Bezirci, Haluk Şahin, Murat Belge gibi önemli yazar ve şairler bulunur. II. Yeni şiirine toplumsal değerlerden kopuk olma eleştirisi getiren eleştirel yazılar derginin şiir anlayışına ışık tutar.
