Abstract

Purpose: SARS-CoV-2 virus causing the Coronavirusdisease (COVID-19)has infected about 100 million people worldwide and has killed more than 2.9 million people around the world [1]. There is a wide array of therapy options available with grim results. The patients go through a state of hopelessness, anxiety, and depression with a feeling of impending doom due to isolation. This therapy was aimed to relieve anxiety and depression and to bring some positivity and hope to patients of COVID-19 in solitude. Methods: A total of 15 non-severe COVID-19 cases who were willing to participate in the study with an SPO2 greater than 94 % and no other comorbidities were chosen for the study. These patients were in home isolation and were receiving the medicinal therapy for covid disease already. The patient had to listen to the sound therapy twice a day for an hour for 5 days using earphones in isolation. Depression and anxiety among the patients were assessed using a Questionnaire-(standard Hamilton anxiety and depression scoring system). Results: A total of 8 male and 7 female patients took part in the study. The musical notes had a calming effect on the patients. There was a significant decrease in anxiety and depression among patientsand the results were statistically significant. They felt light after the sessionswhich lasted for an hour, twice a day for 5 days. All patients slept well, and the symptoms did not worsen. All recovered completely in due course of time. No side effects or adverse events were recorded. Conclusion: Covid sound therapy, decreases anxiety and depression and instills hope in non-severe cases of COVID-19 disease. After evaluating the proof of concept, a larger trial should be planned.
