The Effectiveness of The E-Learning and Distance Education System in Teaching Visual Arts Courses during COVID-19

Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the impact of the effectiveness of the e-learning and distance education system; using the blackboard system as an approved platform for teaching theoretical and practical visual arts courses. The researcher followed the descriptive analytical approach, as she conducted a questionnaire surveying the opinion of the 12 faculty members and 18 female students to reach the results of the outcomes of teaching theoretical and practical courses by applying the system during a pandemic. Through analyzing the answers to the questionnaire, the pros and cons, strengths and shortcomings were presented for teaching theoretical and practical courses and the effectiveness of the system in transferring the knowledge, skills and techniques required for each course. It is fast and effective in the educational process, and that most of the problems faced by its users are the weakness of the Internet. On the other hand, it proved its effectiveness in teaching theoretical visual arts courses by (80%), while its use in teaching practical visual arts courses was (45%) due to the nature of the practical aspect in some courses, which negatively affected the production and output of the artwork accurately and proficiently. The research recommended developing the system to be more compatible with teaching practical courses and providing free internet for faculty members and students so that it will be activated once they log in to the e-learning portal. The establishment of electronic universities in the Kingdom will raise the acceptance rate based on the proven ability and effectiveness of this system in education.
