Abstract
: Qur'an is an important part of being used as a guideline for studying Islamic sciences. Qur'an is often referred to as a book that has the largest linguistic and literary criterion. As a guideline for Muslims, Qur'an contains various signs that are God's message to his people, so the signs need to be examined in depth so that the message to be delivered can be fulfilled. The sign in Qur'an can be understood with some science, one of which is the science of the sign or termed with semiology. As for one of the signs mentioned in Qur'an is the word دةَرِ َقor often translated with the word Ape. It is interesting to research, because of the many kinds, only a few animals are mentioned in Qur'an, and one of them is the ape. The discussion steps of this study are entirely carried out using qualitative research that is library research. This study examines the word ape in Qur'an with the theory of methology offered by one of the semiotics of Roland Barthes. The message or meaning contained in the word ape can be traced using Barthes mythology or the science of myth because according to Barthes, myth is a communication system to give meaning. The results of the study were on the word ape, where the meaning and explanation are segnifies in Qur'an by a contempt and humiliation.
