Abstract
Management contributes to the smooth operation of businesses around the world. Understanding how leadership and management shapes a business is, therefore, incredibly important. Two theories which have shaped the modern workplace is transformational theory and contingency theory. These theories are based around different concepts and views around management, which is another reason they might be interesting to explore. Furthermore, the evolving nature of management means that the theories need to be flexible to be applied to future workplaces. This essay will, therefore, compare how transformational and contingency theories enrich the understanding of the modern workplace. This will be done through applying the theories themselves to real life cases and examples. Before attempting to decide on a definitive theory which works best in most areas of management and in most businesses.
