Abstract

The article determines the relevance of studying the features of family conflict competence and its influence on the resolution of family conflicts by spouses and presents the results of an empirical study of the formation of conflict competence of family members. Family conflicts are highlighted as a vital indicator of marriage stability, the reason for which can be the age difference between generations (parents and children), differences in characters that complicate mutual understanding, and create misunderstandings in the plane of values, standards of behaviour etc. According to the results of an empirical study in which 150 family members participated, who were divided into groups by age, gender, place of residence, length of married life, and the number of children in the family – an insufficient level of conflict-related competence formation was revealed. More than half of the respondents were characterized by a low and medium level of conflict-related competence, and a high level was found only in a tenth of the respondents. A third of the respondents are characterized by their methods of conflict resolution, perception of all the details of what is happening in a conflict situation, trust in their abilities to solve complex, conflict situations, thinking over judgments, and considering decisions before acting. According to the results of variance analysis, statistically significant differences in conflict-related competence were found in the following: the studied men living in rural areas are characterized by higher indicators compared to men living in the city and women from families living both in the city and in the village. The most capable of solving family conflicts are the following: women who have been married for more than 10 years and men from families whose experience has been 5-10 years; men in families with 1 child and women in families with 2 or more children. The least able to compromise are men whose families have 3 or more children
