Abstract
Listening is the first receptive skill that a learner acquires. Despite its simplicity, this skill is often seen as difficult to teach. Teachers today are increasingly engaged in interactively teaching listening. Though the concept "interactive" seems appealing, it is difficult to put into practice. This paper attempts to suggest classroom arrangements as well as activities that an EFL instructor may use in the classroom. A teacher must teach vocabulary, pronunciation, syllables, and associated grammar from the bottom up. It is only because the bottom up strategy has limitations that instructors must supplement teaching with meta-cognitive skills using the top down approach. To summarize, today's learners have greater control over their learning.
