Abstract

The primary purpose of this research is to record, investigate, and evaluate how cultural resistance and representation are handled in modern African American poetry. The major emphasis is on how black poets reveal and challenge the white supremacist cultural logic that has historically characterized black people as socially, politically, and intellectually inferior. The primary focus is on the literature of Amiri Baraka, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, and Rita Dove, while the analysis of societal, political, and existential perspectives serves as a secondary concern. Examining how various strategies of resistance and representation have fared throughout time, the study tracks the development of African American literature as a whole. The purpose of this research is to better understand the ways in which African American poetry conveys distinctive cultural features. The research delves into how African American poets use these devices to claim a distinct cultural identity
