Abstract

This research paper presents an analytical perspective on the factors that contribute to the encouragement of intrinsic motivation. By analyzing various studies, the paper explores the impact of different elements on “intrinsic motivation” across different contexts. The research reveals that offering individuals choices has an affirmative effect on “intrinsic motivation”, “effort”, “task performance”, and “perceived competence”. Notably, choices unrelated to the task, given consecutively, and without subsequent rewards have a stronger influence. Additionally, the paper addresses the negative impact of external rewards on internal motivation, highlighting the importance of educators prioritizing the cultivation of inherent drive rather than relying on incentives. The study also investigates how intrinsic motivation relates to skilled motor performance, physical self-concept, life satisfaction, work characteristics, innovative work behaviour, creativity, and technology acceptance. The findings demonstrate that “intrinsic motivation” has a crucial role in these areas, influencing outcomes such as performance, well-being, and knowledge sharing. The insights provided in this paper have practical implications for educators, managers, and organizations aiming to foster intrinsic motivation and create environments that support and enhance it.
