Abstract
The concept of self-education in pedagogical aspect is highlighted and its content is substantiated in the context of student education in higher technical educational institutions. The role of selfeducation in the process of professional training of specialists in universities is investigated. The trends in self-education enhancing the development of students' cognitive independence are indicated.
