Abstract

Introduction. The article analyses the historical and pedagogical experience regarding the use of Ukrainian songs in the educational process of primary school for the purpose of forming students' vocal competence. An analysis was made and attention was focused on the meaning, possibilities, and main values of Ukrainian folklore: historical, worldview, educational, moral, aesthetic, and creative. The educational opportunities and values inherent in Ukrainian song are substantiated, which will help to fulfil the task of modern primary education in the education and training of primary school students who will be able to creatively use the valuable potential of the musical and song heritage of the Ukrainian people for the purpose of vocal training. Purpose. The article aims to reveal the pedagogical process of forming the vocal competence of elementary school students based on the awareness of the values of Ukrainian musical folklore and their influence on the education of the creative personality of younger schoolchildren. Methods. Theoretical analysis of scientific literature and historical sources, systematization and generalization were used. Results. The use of Ukrainian songs in the process of formation of vocal competence raises the urgency of developing a methodology that will contribute to the deep assimilation of musical and pedagogical knowledge on the basis of a comprehensive study of national material in the learning process, will contribute to the activation of the cognitive activity of younger schoolchildren, the development of their musical and aesthetic ideas, and an increase in the general level of musical – aesthetic culture, the formation of their moral beliefs accordingly. For a deeper mastery of Ukrainian folk song culture by schoolchildren and the education of their national self-awareness, it is desirable to act according to the system of purposeful, logical and systematic enrichment of the content of music-pedagogical education with the values of Ukrainian folk song culture, which will contribute to the formation of the vocal competence of primary school students and the education of their national self-awareness. Originality. Without paying attention to a significant number of theoretical and practical studies that have been conducted in the field of music education, the problem of learning Ukrainian songs, which is one of the characteristics of the formation of vocal competence of primary school students in the process of educational activities, is relevant. Conclusion. We understand the formation of vocal competence of elementary school students as the process of mastering a set of vocal knowledge, abilities, and skills, which expresses their ability to vividly embody the artistic and figurative content of a vocal work based on the experience of an emotional and valuable attitude to vocal art. The problem of forming the vocal competence of younger schoolchildren through the use of Ukrainian songs remains relevant for primary school teachers. The introduction of the values of folk song culture into the content of musical and pedagogical education contributes to raising the level of national self-awareness, and patriotism, the development of student activity in mastering Ukrainian folk song culture, creative use of acquired knowledge, abilities and skills in educational and extracurricular activities.
