Abstract
The level of sophistication that science has reached today and its reflections on technology show that perfect "human design" is possible. The 2009 movie My Sister's Keeper, directed by Nick Cassavetes, is about Anna and her family, who were designed to be a donor to her cancer-stricken sister. The film depicts the concept of "designed person", its causes and consequences, in the atmosphere of love of family ties, thanks to the science of genetics. However, it is thought that this concept does not seem as innocent as it is reflected in the movie, and that it will bring ethical and legal problems of unrestricted human designs in the future. In this study, it is aimed to make ethical evaluations by drawing attention to the problems that arise in the film. My Brother's Story movie can be considered as a prominent work in terms of narrative ethics, especially in subjects such as "human design", "informed consent in children", "the child's decision on his own body", "futile treatment" and the concept of "death" and can be recommended to students in medical ethics courses.
