Commercial Microfilming in the World: History and Modernity

The aim of the article is to research the history of the development of сommercial microfi lming in world's leading countries, to study the current state of microfi lming technologies and digitization of documentation, to defi ne the perspective directions of their development. Research methodology. The analytical-research method and systematization of data on commercial microfi lming in the world, taking into account the development of technologies in historical retrospect, is applied. The scientifi c novelty. For the fi rst time, a study of the history of the emergence and development of commercial microfi lming in world's leading countries has been conducted, the leading role of business in the creation and implementation of new technologies in the fi eld of microfi lming has been shown, recommendations for the introduction of commercial microfi lming services in Ukraine have been made. The evolution of the business strategy of the company ProQuest LLC in the fi eld of microfi lming and the modern business model of the development of library collections Patron-driven acquisition are considered, promising hybrid microfi lming technologies of the leading countries of the world are studied using the example of the Microfi lm Digital Archive application of the BMI Imaging Systems company. Conclusions. In the leading countries of the world, extensive experience has been gained in commercial services for microfi lming and digitization of documentation, which provide organizations of various forms of ownership to legal entities and individuals. Modern methods of microfi lming use hybrid microfi lming technologies, which allows to signifi cantly expand the scope and capabilities of insurance fonds of archival institutions etc., through the provision of commercial services for microfi lming and digitization of documentation. It is of interest to study the history of commercial microfi lming, microfi lming technologies and provide recommendations on the introduction of commercial microfi lming services in Ukraine in the context of digitalization of the economy and society.
