Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of socially dangerous diseases in Ukraine and the need to ensure access to medical care for persons in penitentiary institutions. It is noted that this applies to such diseases as HIV, tuberculosis and infectious hepatitis. It is emphasised that the Constitution of Ukraine guarantees the right to healthcare, and that prisoners should also have this right, with the exception of restrictions provided for by law. The article also draws attention to the problems faced by persons in prisons in terms of access to quality medical care. It is noted that healthcare facilities subordinated to the State Penitentiary Service do not always meet the standards of state regulations, and this leads to a violation of the right of convicts to healthcare. The results of the study show that diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV and hepatitis are not only a medical but also a social problem, and a comprehensive approach is needed to address them. Ukraine is focusing its efforts on European integration and improving its penal legislation to ensure the right to medical care for persons in prisons.
