CLINICAL EFFICIENCY OF THE THERAPEUTIC AND PREVENTIVE GEL IN THE COMPLEX TREATMENT OF GENERALIZED PERIODONTITIS IN WOMEN WITH IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

Aim. To prove clinical efficiency of the therapeutic and preventive gel in the complex treatment of generalized periodontitis in female patients with iron deficiency anemia. Materials and Methods. Treatment of generalized periodontitis was provided in 80 patients (women) with a history of iron deficiency anemia (the main group) and in 31 patients (women without IDA) of the comparative group;the patients' age was 20 to 59 years. The effectiveness of complex therapy of generalized periodontitis was evaluated on the basis of clinical indicators: Hygiene Index (HI) of Fedorova-Volodkina, the Schiller-Pisarev test, bleeding index (Papilla Bleeding Index, Saxer & Muhlemann 1975) and periodontal index (PI); immediately after treatment and after 6 and 12 months. In addition to basic treatment, patients of the main group were provided with periodontal therapy, using gingival bandages with the proposed therapeutic and preventive gel. Results and Discussion. Clinical evaluation after treatment showed positive therapeutic effects of the gel, used in the treatment of generalized periodontitis in patients with iron deficiency anemia. Conclusions: positive therapeutic effect was achieved due to antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of medicinal components comprised in this gel.
