DEVELOPING ENGLISH SPEAKING COMPETENCE OF FUTURE TEACHERS AS A COMPONENT OF MODERN TEACHER'S PEDAGOGICAL MASTERY

Abstract

Introduction. Today, Ukraine recognises the mastery of English as a basic skill that ensures the competitiveness of specialists in the labour market and the country's competitiveness in the world. The reorientation of modern higher education to European standards predicts the training of a competent specialist, capable of personal and professional growth, active self-realisation, the basis of which is communicative competence in foreign languages. The requirements for foreign language proficiency update the issue of increasing the level of foreign language communicative competence of higher education students. It is necessary to modernise the content, forms, methods and means of learning a foreign language in order to be able to meet today's challenges. The purpose of the article is to study and substantiate the phenomenon of English communicative competence as an important component of pedagogical skills of future teachers in Ukraine. Methods. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, a series of data collection methods were used: theoretical: analysis of scientific and methodological sources; empirical: observation of the educational process, questionnaires, interviews, and conversations; graphic.Results. The problem of development of English communicative competence of future teachers of Ukraine is an important component of their pedagogical skills, which should be solved during professional training in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. In order to achieve the set goal, we implemented the following tasks, the solution of which ensured the gradual realisation of the goal. First of all, we studied the main aspects that are important for the development of English language competence of future teachers: a deep understanding of the linguistic structure of the language being studied, the methodology of teaching English, the development of students' speaking skills, cultural competence and self-improvement. In the next stage of the research, we identified the main problems associated with the development of the studied competence that exist today: low level of language preparation of future teachers, insufficient level of motivation of students, unequal level of preparation of students of higher education, insufficient communicative practice, inadequate assessment and support during the educational process. Then the main means of developing the English language competence of future teachers were identified: integration of English into the educational process of a higher education institution, professional development of future teachers in English, use of innovative teaching methods, international exchange and partnership, independent work. The final stage of the project was to identify ways of improving the English language skills of future teachers in the Ukrainian education system. Originality. For the first time, resources have been identified to help improve the English language skills of future teachers and prepare them for work in a modern educational environment through distance learning in the border regions of Ukraine during military operations. Conclusion. In accordance with the purpose of the article, the main aspects of the development of the English language competence of future teachers are described, the main problems of the development of the studied competence are determined, and the ways of improving the English language competence of future teachers in the educational system of Ukraine are identified.
