VECTORS AND PERSPECTIVES OF DESCRIBING CULTURAL SEMANTICS (REVIEW OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE)

The article provides an overview of the scientific conference “Vectors and Prospects of Describing Cultural Semantics” held on May 25, 2023 at the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language within the framework of the Third Kostomarov Forum. The conference participants discussed the ways and methods of studying the cultural semantics of language and the impact of digital technologies on this process. The review introduces the reports of well-known scholars dealing with the problems of attracting extralinguistic information in “small lexicography” (M.A. Krongauz), the cultural component of the meaning of language units (A.D. Shmelev), linguoculturology as a direction of anthropological linguistics (V.I. Karasik), integrative approach in the study of paroemias and phraseological units (M.L. Kovshova). Attention is drawn to the works devoted to the types of linguistic knowledge in the process of speech activity (N.B. Mechkovskaya), the differentiation of ethnolinguistics and linguoculturology (E.L. Berezovich), and the representation of cultural semantics in dictionaries of different types (N.G. Bragina). Designated are the directions of research of cultural semantics through the prism of semantic universals based on the approach “natural semantic metalanguage” (A.N. Gladkova) as well as combinations of traditional and experimental methods in linguoculturology when comparing universal values of different cultures (S.L. Nistratova). The observations of I.M. Kobozeva on articles on cultural semantics submitted to the editorial office of the Bulletin of the Moscow University are presented.
