Abstract

The article presents the results of a system analysis of lexical-grammatical and communicative-pragmatic features of tag questions' functioning in the cinema-text. Options for possible interpretation are proposed. Examples of tag questions are provided; their adequate translation is possible only taking into account their stylistic function. It is proved that the grammatical structure can act as a text-forming element. The study is relevant in the framework of the discussion about the accuracy of a literary text translation. It confirms the need to bear in mind the structure of the text and the place of stylistically relevant units (tag questions, in particular) in it. A system method was used, involving the parallel application of structural-grammatical, lexical-stylistic, semantic-cognitive and communicative-pragmatic approaches to the analysis of the text in their interaction; which made it possible to take into account the peculiarities of grammar, syntactics, semantics and pragmatics of tag questions' functioning. Their stylistic and compositional-structural potential was considered. Justifying the need for a system approach to determining the necessary and sufficient volume of context in translation and text interpretation, the author notes the importance of considering the multidimensionality of the context implemented in the formal-grammatical, lexical-semantic, rhetorical-stylistic and communicative-pragmatic aspects. The study was carried out on the basis of subtitles – dialogue interactions in the comedy film “Paul” (2011) directed by Greg Mottola, implemented as the closest possible to live use of literary and artistic stylisation of colloquial speech.
