THE REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN AS AN EXAMPLE OF LANGUAGE SITUATION IN A MULTILINGUAL SOCIETY

Abstract
The article considers the linguistic situation in the Republic of Tatarstan, a vivid example of a polylingual society. The study was conducted on the material of the legislative base in the sphere of language policy of the Republic of Tatarstan. The aim of the study is to systematise the data on the implementation of the policy of preserving regional languages in the Republic of Tatarstan. The ob-ject of the study is the language situation in a multilingual society. The subject of the study is the laws, concepts and activities, promoting the preservation of multilingualism in the territory under consideration. The main method of research is the descriptive method, with the help of which the data of official documents in the field of language policy of the Republic of Tatarstan are consid-ered. The results of the study show that the Republic of Tatarstan demonstrates an active position in preserving the native language, promoting bilingualism and admitting other languages. These pro-cesses are regulated by the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan, which is the basis for all the laws, state programmes, development concepts, orders of the Ministry of Education and Science. Multilingualism is a key element of the state policy in the Republic of Tatarstan.
