Abstract
This research studies the meanings of the conjunction "bal" in specific contexts. Some grammarians have mentioned that when “bal” connects two sentences, it gives one of two meanings; “Ibtal” (refute) or “Intiqal” (transition). In “Ibtal”, “bal” functions as a coordinator connecting two sentences, while in “Intiqal” it expresses the commencement of a new meaning canceling what precedes it. The commentators, having a different opinion, decide its meaning according to the context in which “bal” is mentioned. The majority of them consider it a coordinator while some followed the grammarians and use it to begin a new meaning negating what's before it. This research discusses the opinions of grammarians and commentators on the selected contexts in terms of the theories that state that “bal” is a coordinator and it connects the two sentences without canceling any part.
