Abstract
This research deals with a relatively new phenomenon in modern culture - the comics adaptation of the texts of librettos. The aim of the study is to identify the linguistic features of comics adaptations based on opera librettos. The object of the analysis is a series of comic adaptations of opera works created and staged by the Municipal Theater in the City of Modena. The comics is characterised by a certain structural connectedness in which the iconic sign is included in the verbal component. Iconic elements correlate meaningfully with various verbal components, thus providing communication. The analysis of comic adaptations at various levels of language (syntactic, morphosyntactic and lexical) made it possible to come to several conclusions related to the degree of adaptation. The comics adaptation of the opera “Rigoletto” is closer to the colloquial style, while the comics adaptation of “Macbeth” is closer to the original text of the libretto.
