Abstract

Efficient seed treatment is one of the important factors for organic farming of fruit crops. Among the various fruits, Mango is fairly nutritious fruit crop grown in almost every climatic conditions of the world. The investigation was carried during the year 2012 to find the effect of different organics on seed germination and vegetative characters of mango. A completely randomized design with three replications and nine treatments were employed viz. Control, Amrit pani (3% for 24 hours), Panchagavya (3% for 24 hours), Vermiwash (3% for 24 hours), Cow urine (24 hours), Cow dung (24 hours), Custard apple leaf extract (5% for 24 hours), Basil leaf extract (5% for 24 hours) and Neem seed kernel extract (5% for 24 hours). The observations were recorded on rootstock height (cm), rootstock diameter (mm), number of leaves, germination percentage and germination vigour index. Analysis of variance showed highly significant differences among treatments for all the traits. Panchagavya 3% performed better than all the treatments for most of the traits. Among organics, Panchagavya 3% was found comparatively better.
