Abstract
The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of stage of lactation on total viable count of bacteria as standard plate count (SPC), proteolytic bacterial count (PBC), lipolytic bacterial count (LBC), lactic acid bacterial count (LABC) and coliforms in raw milk as influenced by different stages of lactation of cows under full hand in diagonal method of milking at SHIATS Dairy Farm, Allahabad. The analysis of variance showed significant effect of stages of lactation on SPC, PBC, LBC, LABC and coliform. The quality of raw milk as determined by bacterial parameters was found better in milk of cows up to 100 days of lactation, followed by milk of cows of 101 to 200 days of lactation and milk of cows of 201 to 300 days of lactation.
