Abstract
The objective of this study was to propose an alternative to take advantage of the biogas produced in the Experimental Biogas Production Unit (EBPU) of the Universidad Privada del Valle, through a cogeneration system, which will produce electrical energy that can be used in different areas within the university campus. The proposal began by evaluating, structuring and systematizing the biogas production, in order to guarantee an adjusted and suitable flow of the cogeneration system, it was characterized by allowing to know its composition containing 70% Methane, 30% Carbon Dioxide and 0 ppm of Hydrogen sulfide.
In the proposed design it was required to use 10494 m3/year of biogas, which will enter a 3 Hp compressor in order to increase the pressure. Subsequently, it was stored in two 90-liter cylinders, to then obtain pressurized biogas, which entered the generator set, which will generate 20,988 kW/year of electrical energy.
