Abstract

Endotracheal intubation is the gold standard for airway management that establishes a definitive airway. Because of the problems associated with the use of neuromuscular blockade, BIS monitoring serves as a guide for the adequacy of the depth of anaesthesia for non-paralytic endotracheal intubation. The aim of the study was to compare the time to loss of consciousness and tracheal intubation following induction with sevoflurane without neuromuscular blockade in paediatric patients monitored for depth of anaesthesia either by clinical features or BIS. This study was a randomised, single-blind, controlled clinical trial conducted among 56 children aged 2 to 6 years with ASA of I and II scheduled for elective adenotonsillectomy.
