Abstract
Model truncation is applied to observers for electromechanical systems with elastic joints, showing that the observer order may be reduced considerably with little change to the accuracy of the observer. Three methods of model reduction were evaluated ? method based on physical consideration, roots removal and balanced-truncation model realization. These methods are briefly introduced and evaluated by how well model in an observer estimates system coordinates. Performance of the observer is demonstrated by presentation of simulation results. These methods were seen to be effective and fit for use in observer synthesis.
