Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the issues of scientific research in the author's publications that represent the development of archival thought in Slovenia, Italy and Norway. They consider the updated definition of the essence of archival studies, changes in its conceptual and terminological apparatus, theoretical and methodological foundations, and applied aspects caused by the influence of the realities of the modern digital age; internationalization and harmonization of archival law; problematic issues of functioning of personal and family digital archives, their content, consequences, and ways of solving them; improvement of the quality of education in the archival field; developing archival literacy and digital competence among the population. The publications selected for analysis, as evidenced by the historiography, are closely related to the main directions and issues of scientific research in modern foreign archival studies, especially in European. The research methodology includes: the classical basic principles of scientific knowledge - historicism, scientific objectivity; general scientific methods (historical, logical, systemic, logical and semantic), special scientific methods (definitional analysis, historical and legal, source analysis and synthesis, actualization, historical and typological, periodization, historical and chronological, historical and comparative (comparative)), as well as terminology, certain provisions of the theory and practice of international law, Council of Europe law, EU law. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the author's interpretation of the problematic field of modern archival studies. The innovative potential of the publications is based on a thorough analysis of the achievements of the past archival thought, the production of new ideas, research methods, increased attention to interdisciplinary interaction, rethinking and adaptation of archival processes and technologies to digital reality. The conclusions emphasize the relevance and scientific value of the publications under consideration, which reflect multidimensional, promising developments in the intellectual space of European archival studies.
