Abstract

An image-symbol are examined as key elements of the semiotic system in the stories and novels of Ch.T. Aitmatov. The study of symbolic images helps for deeper understanding of the multidimensional ideological, semantic, moral and emotional content of the works of Ch.T. Aitmatov, which requires the reader for active internal creative work in order to interpret the literary text. The study of the multi-valued structure of the symbol allows us to concentrate on a variety of specific and universal meanings of the figurative system of works, to understand certain possibilities for achieving the expressiveness of language. The analysis of literary works is based on the theoretical principles of classical and cultural semiotics, and aims to identify the nature of symbolic images in the stories and novels of Ch.T. Aitmatov. When studying symbolic images based on the works of Ch.T. Aitmatov there were used the analytical and hermeneutic method to identify the author's goals in the transmission of intentional symbols, the method of contextual analysis to study the features of the appearance and functioning of symbols and their relationships with other elements of the text, typological and linguocultural methods to identify repetitive, accentuated elements of the text and determine the semantics of symbols, the study of cultural and historical background for the interpretation of symbols., as well as a semiotic method for determining deeper and more abstract meanings of symbolic images in the structure of a literary text. Special attention is paid to images with philosophical and cultural-mythological significance (rain, river, lake, thunderstorm, trees, melody, birds, apple, etc.) as semantic concentration and connecting links between the literary text and the ethnocultural context. The study showed that symbolic images in the stories and novels of Ch.T. Aitmatov determine the semantic field of the works, convey the depth and ambiguity of the writer's intention. Thus, symbols in the works of Ch.T. Aitmatov are not only an artistic device, but also a means of semiotic connection between literary, mythological, historical, cultural and personal levels of meaning.
