EXAMINATION OF THE TEXT IN 6TH GRADE SECONDARY SCHOOL TURKISH TEXT BOOKS IN TERMS OF STANDARDS OF TEXTUALITY

Abstract

Turkish course books are the most important equipment for turkish language teachers. Thanks to the coursebooks consisting of qualified texts,including affective and cognitive skills and prepared considering turkish language curriculum's objectives, students develop their word attract skills besides their language awareness and language proficiency. The most commonly used materials for turkish lessons are the course books, so the quality of texts in the course books becomes more important. Therefore, when creating text in the book, which examines the text from the field of science is necessary to use adequately. Text linguitics is the main science that analyses the texts in the course books. The subject of text linguistics is to analyse not only sentences in the text but also the whole text. Moreover, text linguistics deals with the relation with the elements that compose the text. Analysing the structure and function of text are the subjects of text linguistics. To commentate the appropriateness of informative texts which are in Turkish for 6th graders, fictional texts and poems in terms of textuality criteria is the aim of this paper. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. In this paper, the appropriateness of the texts which are in Turkish for 6th graders coursebook is analized according to the textuality criteria scale that Işeri (2010) designated. As a result of this analysis, the texts in Turkish for 6th graders coursebook are not designed and selected taking account of textuality criteria.
