ASSOCIATE DEGREE STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS RELATED WITH LISTENING SKILLS

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the students’ peception of listening skills studying at first and second grades in Vocational High School of Yenice,in 18 Mart University. The study was conducted with the 18 students studying at the first grade in Çanakkale. Participants are at age range from 17 to 21. From the Qualitative research methodology “focus group discussion” was used in this study. For collecting data such questions about listening skill were asked. These questions are about listening skill, reasons of listening skills and the effects of listening. In the Interview form 10 questions were asked to the students. According to the results ıt has been understood that students do not have enough information about the listening skills. Also between the first and second grade students there are some differences about listening skills. In general, ıt has been shown that the students perceive listening as to express themselves more. It was observed that listening was perceived according to the students such as relaxation, expressing feelings, quietness, peace, to be more perceptible and consideration. It has been expressed by the participants that it is important for an efficient listening to status of the environment which affects the listening, availability of the place and that the paying more attention to the topic. Also ıt has been reflected to the analysis which were carried out on to the students studying in primary and secondary education is composed of a variety of difference. Students in the first education have expressed their views that it was more suitable for the development of listening skills of the first education, due to circumstances such as starting life early, to be open the receiver of people in the mornings, passing most of the time without sleeping for students. The students in secondary education have expressed that listening is more appropriate for themselves, in evening classes and for various reasons. Although there has been differences as time, every student cares about listening and benefits from listening skills according to his own term and ıt was shared with the analysis which were made. Implications of these findings were discussed and suggestions were presented with in the context of the study.
