Abstract
In this paper, an approach of time division multiplexing (TDM) for the MIMO-OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) transmitter and receiver is studied and evaluated to reduce the power consumption and cost down of the multiple antenna RF chains. With this TDM technique, our proposed MIMO-OFDM communication system can reduce the number of RF chains from N to 1, which significantly reduces the overall cost and size of the MIMO-OFDM system. However, synchronization problem like the carrier frequency offset (CFO) and sample timing offset (STO) is serious. So we solve the synchronization problem to compensate the CFO and STO. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the single RF MIMO-OFDM communication system almost can provide the same diversity gain as the multiple RF chain MIMO systems.
