Abstract

IEEE 802.20 Mobile Broadband Wireless Access aims at providing a higher integration of services that include content transfer, streaming video etc effectively and affordably to the large number of users which provides Line of sight and non line of sight wireless connectivity. IEEE 802.20 uses Orthogonal frequency division multiple access technique in wireless communication. This technique uses Adaptive modulation on physical layer of IEEE802.20. Adaptive modulation technique uses the concept of cyclic prefix that adds additional bits at the transmitter end. The receiver removes these additional bits in order to minimize the inter symbol interference and to improve the bit error rate. In this paper, we investigated the physical layer performance on the basis of bit error rate with respect to signal to noise ratio by varying cyclic prefix of adaptive modulation techniques (BPSK, QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM). These parameters are discussed with two different channel Models (AWGN Channel model and Rayleigh Channel model). The BER curves were used to compare the performance of different modulation techniques by using cyclic prefix. We compare different modulations and study the behaviour of these modulations under different channels (AWGN and Rayleigh).
