Abstract
Land degradation in the 20th century was accelerated due to the increasing of pressure from production of crops and livestock (over-cultivation, overgrazing, conversion of forests), urbanization, deforestation, and extreme weather such as droughts and salinization of coastal land, flooded by waves.
