Abstract
Many issues that mentioned as reasons for the economic development of Korea such as development policies of Korean government, role of large family holdings acting in accordance with government policy, macro-financial practices in general were examined by earlier literature. However public values that forming socio-cultural dimensions of the economic development are an undeniable importance. Ethical systems that shape national behaviours, form structures of thought, make social order and hierarchy are at least as important as economic policies. In this paper, it is suggested a critical approach to the thesis, specially claimed by Max Weber, that ‘autonomous’ laws of the Confucian ‘mentality’ had a strong effects that are resisting capitalist development and capitalist spirit. However it is examined that Confucian values and its effects are reviewed after the Korean War, especially period that was started the development between the years 1960-1980 and it is revealed various examples of nationalist policies aimed to crate a consciousness of the national development.
