Abstract
Oxadiazole, a heterocyclic nucleus has attracted a wide attention of the chemist in search for the new therapeutic molecules. A series of new 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives 9(a-f), containing 2-N-methyl indole-5- substituted benzophenone moiety were synthesized by multi step synthesis. These newly synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, mass spectra, and also by elemental analysis. All the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities. Antimicrobial studies revealed that compounds 8b, 8e, 8f, 9b, 9e, and 9f showed significant activity against tested strains.
