Abstract

The place is a stage that the events and occasions have been experienced in the narration. Artists treat the place not only as a device of depiction and description but an element foregrounding the political anxieties as well. The place in the narratives is a factor having direct effect on the characters and shaping them; because the environmental conditions have been set in connection with the events and have been deliberately chosen as a dominant element. The place in the novel and similar narratives consisting of different factors is a significant structure completing the organization in this context. It has been given the opportunity of looking at the relationships between the heroes and the places from different dimension. In the Mihr ü Vefâ mathnawi, the place is not presented with certain lines as the geographies belonging to the known outer world. The descriptions of palace, city and country are the locations that have been used to enhance the narrative with the place. The place descriptions such as “deşt” or “kûh” are the places that have been much more treated to express the intricacy and complexity. The place introduction affecting the inner feelings of the heroes is the priority of the narrator. It has been utilized from the representative characteristic of the place to be able to state the difficulty of Vefâ during the journey of love/fate. The narrator has set a link between description of the place and perspective of the hero.
