Reducing the Risk Through Effective Use of Verbal And Non-Verbal Language to Promote Safe Schools in Indonesia

Abstract
As a country that is potential of natural disaster, Indonesia created the National Disaster Management Plan 2010-2014 to enable decision makers to take preventive actions before the disaster happens. One of the implementation is by establishing a safe school that can minimize the risk of injury when strong earthquake or landslide occurs. The department of Arts and Visual Communication and the Language Center of BINUS University has proposed a social campaign to promote natural disaster safe - school to people in disastrous areas. The campaign will be disseminated verbally and nonverbally through various media such as brochures, posters, animated movies, and public announcement services (PSA). This paper tries to show the different style of language and layouts in posters made by the government and Students of BINUS University in making people aware about living in disaster risk area in Indonesia.
