Calculation of the Annual Regional Need for Antituberculous Drugs for Prevention and Treatment of Children and Adolescents

Nowadays, according to the analytical reference “About the activities of health care institutions and establishments in Ivano-Frankivsk region in 2013 and their tasks for 2014 and future” Precarpathian medicine occupies a worthy position among other regions of Ukraine. Thus, by rating of the Ministry of Healthcare in 2013 Ivano-Frankivsk region took 8 rating place (compared to 7th in 2012) among 23 regions of Ukraine (without pilot regions). Meanwhile, a slight increase in mortality from tuberculosis was observed. Overall, the epidemiological situation against tuberculosis in 2013 was stabilized only partially. Although, the incidence of tuberculosis in region remained the same as in 2012 ? 69.5 per 100 thousand people (959 people were identified both in 2012 and 2013), but in 7 areas its growth has occurred. The incidence of tuberculosis has slightly decreased among children (from 14 to 11 cases) and adolescents (from 14 to 12 cases) in Precarpathian region. According to the literature sources, the incidence of tuberculosis among children living in countries with a high prevalence of the disease is 25% higher than it is considered to be. Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to antibiotic prevention among children and adolescents who are at risk. The objective of this work was to determine the need for antituberculosis drugs of the first range for Ivano-Frankivsk region for the prevention and treatment of children and adolescents with tuberculosis in 2014. The basis for calculations of a number of patients as well as the cost of medications was information of 2013. Methods of calculating the need for antituberculosis drugs was approved by order of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine №156 from February 22 2013. The article presents the calculation of material and financial needs for antituberculosis drugs of the first range, which amounted to: 687,312 doses of 100 mg isoniazid, 171,828 ? 100 mg of isoniazid-syrup, 121,752 ? 300 mg isoniazid, 17,280 ? 150 mg rifampicin, 430,245 ? 400 mg ethambutol, 573,660 ? 500 mg pyrazinamide for a total value of 664,483.94 UAH according to budget prices of the end of 2013.
